Importing Content from Other LMS
DNLearn supports importing content from major learning management systems.
Supported Formats
Direct Import
- Canvas course export (.imscc)
- Blackboard course packages
- Moodle backup files
- Common Cartridge (1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
Content Packages
- SCORM 1.2 and 2004
- xAPI/Tin Can packages
- QTI question banks
How to Import
Step 1: Export from Your Current LMS
From Canvas:
1. Go to Settings > Export Course Content
2. Select "Course"
3. Click "Create Export"
4. Download the .imscc file
From Blackboard:
1. Control Panel > Packages and Utilities
2. Export/Archive Course
3. Select content to include
4. Download the package
From Moodle:
1. Course Administration > Backup
2. Select items to include
3. Perform backup
4. Download the .mbz file
Step 2: Import to DNLearn
1. Go to your course in DNLearn
2. Navigate to Settings > Import
3. Select your LMS type
4. Upload your export file
5. Map content to DNLearn structure
6. Click "Import"
What Gets Imported
Fully Supported
- Course structure and sections
- Text content and lectures
- Files and documents
- Quiz questions (most types)
- Assignment descriptions
- Announcements
Partially Supported
- Embedded media (may need re-linking)
- Discussion boards (structure only)
- Gradebook settings (manual review needed)
Not Imported
- Student data and submissions
- Grade history
- LTI tool configurations (need reconfiguration)
After Import
1. Review all imported content
2. Fix any broken links
3. Reconfigure LTI tools
4. Test quizzes and assignments
5. Update due dates
Troubleshooting
Import fails:
- Check file size (max 2GB)
- Ensure file isn't corrupted
- Try exporting again from source
Missing content:
- Some content types may not transfer
- Manually recreate unsupported items
Broken media:
- Re-upload videos and images
- Update embed codes
