How to Create a Course

This guide walks you through creating a course from scratch.

Step 1: Start a New Course

1. Navigate to "My Courses" from the sidebar

2. Click the "Create Course" button

3. You'll see the course creation form

Step 2: Enter Course Details

Fill in the required information:

Basic Information

  • Course Title: A clear, descriptive name
  • Course Code: Your institution's course code (e.g., CS101)
  • Description: Overview of what students will learn

Settings

  • Visibility: Draft, Published, or Archived
  • Enrollment: Open, Invite-only, or Access Code
  • Start/End Dates: When the course runs

Step 3: Add Course Content

After creating the course, add your content:

Sections organize your course into modules:

1. Click "Add Section"

2. Enter section title (e.g., "Week 1: Introduction")

3. Drag to reorder sections

Adding Content

Within each section, add:

  • Lectures: Text-based lessons
  • Videos: Upload or embed videos
  • Files: PDFs, documents, presentations
  • Quizzes: Assessments and tests
  • Assignments: Submission-based work

Step 4: Configure Grading

Set up your gradebook:

1. Go to course settings > Grading

2. Create categories (Assignments, Quizzes, etc.)

3. Set category weights

4. Choose grading scheme

Step 5: Enroll Students

Add students to your course:

  • Manual entry by email
  • Bulk import via CSV
  • Share enrollment link
  • SIS sync (if configured)

Step 6: Publish

When ready:

1. Review all content

2. Set visibility to "Published"

3. Students can now access the course
